Bred to bear large flowers over a long period, many are plagued with problems such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gardenersworld.com\/how-to\/solve-problems\/rose-powdery-mildew\/\">mildew<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gardenersworld.com\/how-to\/solve-problems\/rose-black-spot\/\">blackspot<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gardenersworld.com\/how-to\/solve-problems\/rose-rust\/\">rust<\/a>. Traditionally, rose breeders and growers would treat their roses with fungicides to prevent or cure these diseases, so they weren\u2019t considered much of a problem.<\/p>\n<p>However, in the wake of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gardenersworld.com\/tag\/bees\/\">bee<\/a> declines being linked to the use of fungicides, more and more gardeners prefer not to use such sprays in the garden. And so roses are now being bred for health and vigour as well as beautiful flowers over a long period.
