Interior inspiration comes from all around us – in shops, cafes, when we travel, and the movies. And could there be a more inspiring movie maker for colour and style than Wes Anderson? His visual influence has infiltrated our Instagram feeds, so even if you haven’t seen his films, you’ve probably got a good idea of the aesthetic.

This new book, written by Jessie Atkinson, looks at a number of his films, pulling out ideas, colour palettes and themes that could be translated into your interior scheme. Each section looks at a movie and assigns a style – ie. Bohemian Kitsch for The Royal Tenenbaums – and then explores this throughout the chapter.

There’s a mix of stills from the films and interior images that represent the style, which Jessie then analyses and pulls out interesting elements to offer inspiration. She also shares some DIY projects to try as well as a spread in each chapter on how to host a themed dinner party, afternoon tea or picnic – with food and drink suggestions, table decor ideas, a playlist and even a dream guest list, inspired by the movie.
Recently I’ve felt that a lot of interiors books have felt a bit ‘samey’ – so for me, Live Like Wes is a real breath of fresh air. It’s different and it’s fun, and for any film buffs who happen to love interiors, this is the ultimate coffee table book. While some of the interiors featured may be more at the extreme end of design, that’s what brings an element of joy, eccentricity and escapism that we all enjoy Wes Anderson films for. In the real world, we can glean snippets of ideas that we might want to incorporate in our own homes, whether it’s a colour combination or an overall look, from Fantastic Mr Fox’s cottagecore to The Grand Budapest Hotels’s dopamine decor.
